The son of a Bell County, Ky. pastor who died from a snakebite earlier this year was also bit by a rattlesnake, reports WLEX.
Cody Coots, 21, took over services at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name in Middlesboro after his father, Jamie Coots, died after he was bit during a service in February.
Cody's sister, Katrina Coots, confirmed her brother was bitten by a rattlesnake as he removed snakes from a cage Monday.
According to WLEX, the family wrote in a Facebook post, "we just have to put all things in the hands of Jesus. . . Cody did not sleep well. He is swollen and his hand is black. . . but he is sleeping now and is not in pain."
The 21-year-old said he declined medical treatment from an ambulance crew and instead relied on prayer for healing. The Coots family said they won't seek medical treatment if bitten because a snakebite is God's will.
The family expects Cody to be ok.
Jamie Coots starred on the reality show "Snake Salvation" alongside Pastor Andrew Hamblin of LaFollette. The National Geographic show profiled the pastors' efforts to keep their snake-handling, religious traditions alive.
He had survived several snakebites before the fatal bite.
Cody Coots has a permit to possess poisonous snakes, but according to Kentucky law it's illegal to handle them. He said it was one of his father's dying wishes to practice their faith until the end.
