A 10-year-old girl was rescued from a steep cliff Friday afternoon after she climbed down and was stranded, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

KPD says the girl had climbed approximately 30 feet down the side of a very steep bank on Walker Blvd just north of Mineral Springs and was holding onto a small tree branch. She was frightened and calling for help.

Search and Rescue Officer Ricky Gallaher climbed down the cliff and took hold of the girl's hand. He was able to guide her back up to safety while Sgt. Chris Caulpetzer helped from the top.

An EMT checked on the girl and said she was ok.

The girl said she had gotten lost. Her mother was called and drove her home.
