Afternoon storms appear to be the cause of a house fire in Corryton.
Rural Metro firefighters and the Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad responded to the fire on Gilmore Lane before 3 o'clock Thursday.
Someone inside the house heard a clap of thunder and saw pieces of the siding fall to the ground. The roof now has a huge hole.
Neighbors say storms were over their street when the fire broke out.
"It was raining very hard and pretty much, as you can tell there was a lot of lightning and thunder that was going on and all of a sudden you would never expect to have thunder that loud and close, but it hit the house," said Robert Tyner.
Two people were inside the home and were not hurt.
Rural Metro says it took longer than normal to get to the scene because of an increase in calls due to the weather.
