A Knoxville firefighter was recognized Monday for saving a man's life while off duty.
Cory Darnell was driving when he saw Tom Touzeau face down on the greenway. Touzeau had a heart attack and Darnell stopped and performed CPR until emergency medical services arrived.
Mayor Rogero recognized Darnell as the Knoxville Firefighter of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2014.
Darnell and Touzeau met Monday for the first time since the incident. Touzeau says he'll always think of Darnell as a hero, but Darnell says anybody can do what he did.
"You don't have to be a fireman or a paramedic to do what we did for this guy; anybody can save a life with effective CPR," he said.
"The training is part of it, but also stepping up and I'm glad Cory was there and was able to do that," said Touzeau.
This all happened in January of this year.
Touzeau had a pacemaker and defibrillator implanted in his heart and is back to running.
