Family and friends gathered Saturday to remember an East Tennessee man who died in a car crash last week, Charles Ray Phillips.

(WBIR- Loudon County) Family and friends gathered Saturday to remember an East Tennessee man who died in a car crash last week.

Charles Ray Phillips, 24, of Lenoir City died on I-40 in Loudon County Tuesday morning.

A semi hit the back of Phillips' car. His car then crashed into the back of another semi truck, and all three vehicles caught fire.

Phillips' family and friends left a metal cross at the crash site near mile market 364. They placed a neon construction vest and hard hat on the cross as a memorial. Friends said Phillips worked in the construction industry.

I-40 was shut down for several hours after the wreck. The other two drivers involved in the crash were not injured.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said the investigation is ongoing.
