A million dollar grant will help build a new treatment unit at East Tennessee Children's Hospital for babies born dependent on drugs. The gift is from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee Health Foundation.
Officials say it will help the growing problem in the state. Children's Hospital officials said the new unit will allow better monitoring of the babies who require constant attention.
Health officials counted 921 children last year born dependent on prescription painkillers.
Already this year, officials count 603, on pace to pass last year's count.
