(WBIR) Officials said they believe a grandmother shot her 10-year-old grandson before killing herself near an abandoned house in Grainger County Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.
A woman, who lived next door to the abandoned house, found the two bodies on the 8800 block in Rutledge shortly before 8 a.m. and called police.
Officials identified the victims as Deidre Thacker, 45, and her 10-year-old grandson Jaden Thacker. They're both from Sharps Chapel in Union County.
A neighbor near the abandoned house found the two bodies Saturday and called authorities.
TBI spokesperson Kristen Helm said a green Taurus was found in the driveway of the abandoned home. She said evidence discovered inside the vehicle as well as at the scene indicates the deaths were a murder-suicide.
TBI said the victims have no known association to the property. Authorities took both bodies to the University of Tennessee's forensic center for an autopsy.
TBI said the deaths are still under investigation.
