(WBIR-Knoxville) One of the simple messages echoing across the country on this September 11 is "never forget."
Teachers across East Tennessee made that message their focus, to teach kids who were too young to remember the terrorist attacks on this day in 2001.
The L and N Stem Academy marked the day with the music of Taps and lessons from 9-11.
Teachers say this year's graduating seniors were only 5 or 6 when the terrorists struck.
"It's very important in watershed events in history like Pearl Harbor and JFK's assasination that we keep this in front of our kids because this is our history. This is who we are," said Social Studies teacher Kathy Koley.
The Social Studies Department set up today's ceremony. Students participated in the commemoration and read excerpts from speeches given at the time to give them some historical context.
