(WBIR-Knoxville) The City of Knoxville is trying to get local businesses in the Christmas spirit a little early this year.
On Tuesday, city officials kicked off the "Up on the Rooftop" campaign, which encourages downtown residents and businesses to display Christmas trees on top of their building for the upcoming holiday season.
The popular campaign began back in 1995 with 11 trees and continues to grow every year.
In addition, the city hopes businesses will participate in the holiday decorating contest called "A Window Wonderland." Judges will determine which downtown business is the decked out the best for the holiday season, and the public will vote on the best window display. The participating businesses will be featured in a special brochure that includes a map for easy viewing.
If your business is interested in participating, contact Kyndra Brewer or Elaine Levanthal at 215-4248 by October 25 to be included in the brochure. The windows must be decorated by November 29.
All this is part of the annual Christmas in the City campaign. This year's theme will be "A White Christmas in Knoxville." The city will release more details soon about the events.
