(WBIR-Knoxville) The State Street garage is officially re-opened for business.

Mayor Madeline Rogero and city officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning to celebrate the $6.1 million expansion.

The project includes a new glass roof over State Street to the landing area outside Regal Cinema, along with a new elevator and 240 more parking spaces.

Rogero said she's excited about the opening, but is still looking for other ways to improve parking in downtown Knoxville.

"We'll have about 1,100 spaces in this garage. It's also been built to allow future decks to be added or future offices or residential. So we're really thinking ahead to the future for our parking and for other needs downtown," said Rogero at the ceremony.
