Construction crews installed Monday four massive beams for a new pedestrian bridge on the University of Tennessee's campus.

The main beams measure 126 feet long and weigh a whopping 100,000 pounds. The new pedestrian walkway will cross over Phillip Fulmer way to the new University Center.

Construction for the bridge started a week ago. Crews had to close the section of Phillip Fulmer Way from Cumberland Avenue to Middle Drive last week. This section is set to reopen in early summer 2014.

Vehicles can still access Middle Drive and the Hill by turning right from northbound Phillip Fulmer Way next to Neyland Stadium.During the closure, the side walk on the west side of Phillip Fulmer Way is staying open from Cumberland Avenue to the entrance to the University Center. The sidewalk on the east side of the road is also staying open from Cumberland Avenue to the entrance to the Burchfiel Geography Building.
