(WBIR) Many people took to the streets of downtown Knoxville Saturday to raise money for the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation.
Hundreds of runners came out to show their support for the cause at the Lucky Kidney 6K run/2K walk.
The organizations executive director said all the money raised goes to support people who need help and are dealing with kidney disease.
"A lot of people who are on dialysis are very low income, it's a very time consuming thing, it's very draining, and a lot of people can't work while on dialysis," Katie Martin, executive director of the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation, said.
Martin said money raised Saturday will help fund the foundation's nutritional and dental assistance programs, as well as their transportation program that helps patients get around.
She estimated Saturday's race raised around $30,000.
