(WBIR- Knoxville) It's been rough few days for Tennessee, with the men and women's basketball teams not making it beyond the Sweet 16. However, one more loss could be on the horizon, as reports from ESPN say Cuonzo Martin is in talks with Marquette for their head coaching position.

"My first reaction was, 'wait, what do you mean he's going to leave now after the fans came back to support him?'" student Bradford Reszel said Monday.

10News conducted a Twitter poll as to whether UT should fight for Martin to stay, if he is offered the position. 62.5% said they want the university to pursue the coach with a higher offer than the Milwaukee-based school. 37.5% said they want Tennessee to move forward with a new coach.

Ernest Harlan saw the news first reported by ESPN Sunday night.

"I was kind of upset about it," Harlan said, with his first thoughts: why ruin a good thing?

"I think they should do everything in their power to keep him, and I think the fans owe him an apology," Harlan added.

Many fans wonder whether the recent "Bring Back Bruce" Pearl petition will weigh in Martin's decision. The person who started the petition told 10News last week he was wrong.

Others say talking with Marquette is a smart decision for Martin.

"Marquette is a great opportunity, might have a better opportunity recruiting there," student Daniel Duk said. "I'm not sure -- it's his call."

Either way, nothing is decided yet.

"Cuonzo, please stay in Tennessee. We love you and we support you," Harlan said.
