Some Knox County art students had the chance to decorate a Knoxville landmark on Friday.

Students from Austin-East Magnet High School painted a mural inside the Sunsphere's newly reopened observation deck. It's part of the city's renovations.

The student's theme is "Knoxville through the eyes of art students." The mural will include depictions of the Henley Bridge, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, and Pat Summitt.

"They all researched key aspects of Knoxville and what that meant to them, and then we came back together and I had two students sketch out the design, based on what the students thought was important to show and depict in a mural," said art teacher Melissa Wilkinson.

L and N STEM Academy will get a turn to paint a mural later this month as well. It will include images of downtown Knoxville, the UT campus, and the L&N Station, a former railroad station that now houses the school.
