(WBIR - Downtown Knoxville) Monday marked the 40th anniversary of the Rubik's Cube and the popular toy has some special ties to East Tennnessee.
The Holiday Inn in Knoxville is home to the largest Rubik's Cube ever. It measures 10 feet tall, 216 cubic feet and weighs 12-hundred pounds.
It debuted at the 1982 World's fair and has made several stops before coming to the Holiday Inn in 2007.
"Traveled like the Stanley Cup Really. It's been over at the chocolate factory, it's been at the East Tennessee Museum of Natural History. It's seen two tours over at UT and ultimately here at the Holiday Inn," General Manager Marc Bauer said.
The hotel said groups from as far away as Europe and Asia have visited to see the Rubik's Cube.
