WBIR - One day after the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, dozens of people in East Tennessee paid tribute to our nation's heroes.

Remote Area Medical hosted the 11th annual "Salute To Service" earlier today at the Knoxville Downtown Island Airport. The event included patriotic music played by the Tennessee Wind Symphony, a parachute drop team, and a fly-over with retired military planes, including RAM's very own flagship DC-3 which few on D- Day.

Those who attended said it was a great opportunity to thank and to remember our nation's heroes.

"It's really very emotional," said Lloyd Pitney. "It's good to see the few World War Two veterans that we have here today, and to honor them."

The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute.
