When students return to the UT campus next month, they won't have access to an electric bike program.
UT launched CycleUShare, the nation's first automated electric bicycle sharing system, in 2011. The research effort gave students and staff access to 14 electric bikes on campus for free.
The project's founder started the program with research grants. But when that money ran out, he couldn't find financial support to continue it, forcing him to shut it down. He is looking for other funding opportunities to re-start it.
Organizers are working to compile the research data from the project and share it with other universities looking to develop their own e-bike programs.
