The Knox County Sheriff's Office has released the identities of two women who were killed in a head-on collision in East Knox County Christmas evening.
Deputies say the incident started with a broken down black Cadillac Escalade SUV on Mine Road at Mascot Road. There were no lights on the Escalade as the alternator went out, investigators said.
A blue Dodge Caravan heading west on Mine Road struck the back of the Escalade then swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a Chrysler Town and Country head-on. The Chrysler rolled over onto its top.
Deputies say the driver of the Caravan, 46-year-old Patricia Burroughs of White Pine, was transported to UT Medical Center by ambulance where she later died. The driver of the Chrysler, 30-year-old Heather Miranda of Dandridge, was airlifted to UT Medical Center by Lifestar where she died also.
Three passengers were also hospitalized after the crash. Rosa Coleman, 64, was a passenger in the Caravan. She is in stable condition at UT Medical Center.
The two passengers of the Chrysler were also taken to UT Medical Center. A 14-year-old is in critical condition and a 13-year-old is in stable condition.
Everyone was wearing seatbelts except the minors.
The driver of the Escalade was uninjured.
Mine Road was shut down for four hours while officials cleaned up and investigated the crash.
