Many students in Knox County will be receiving the flu mist in the next couple of weeks.

The Knox County Health Department offers the vaccine in hopes of preventing the spread of influenza. This is the 10th year the Health Department has gone into Knox County elementary and middle schools as well as some Head Start programs, private schools and child care centers.

Health Department officials say they can see a difference from before they started giving the vaccines.

They say children are the main spreaders of influenza. They pick up the illness at school and then go home and spread it to their families and the rest of the community.

Health department officials say everyone should get a vaccine even if they've never had the flu.

The Health Department will be in the schools for several weeks, but parents must fill out a consent form if they would like their child to receive the flu mist.
