The Knox County Council PTA awarded scholarships to eight Knox County high school seniors Monday evening.

The scholarships ranged from $500 to $750. This year all eight winners are from separate Knox County schools.

One PTA member says it's these awards are all about bringing the community closer together.

"Really trying to promote student excellence and trying to promote parent and student involvement in the schools and this is a great way for us to do it and really to reward the hard work of our students that are out there in our community," said Virginia Babb with the Knox County PTA.

Scholarship winners are encouraged to attend a Tennessee school, but the scholarships apply anywhere across the country.
