(WBIR, Knoxville) - A Cumberland County third grader finally got to go on a field trip to the zoo Thursday after he was not allowed to go on the class trip two weeks ago.

The Knoxville Zoo welcomed Holdan Crawley and his family Thursday morning.

They spent the day getting the VIP treatment. Holdan got to meet Einstein the parrot, feed the giraffes, and pet the tortoises.

Pam Flowers, Holdan's grandmother, says the trip was an incredible experience.

"You can tell he is just thrilled, it's amazing. It's amazing for me! I've never been that close to the giraffe or a tortoise. It's amazing to see how excited he is as well as the other kids," said Flowers.

Holdan was originally supposed to go with his classmates two weeks ago, but the family got a call saying they didn't have a specially equipped bus to take him there.

The Knoxville Zoo and the school district worked together to make Thursday's trip happen. The school provided the bus for transportation.
