(Update 4:30 pm) Greene County dispatchers say the man has been rescued and taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
A helicopter sent in Friday to help rescue a climber trapped on a rock ledge in Greene County had to turn back because of foggy conditions.
According to WCYB, rescuers are still trying to reach the man at Margarette Falls, but it could take them several more hours to get to him.
(WBIR) A climber has been trapped on a rock ledge in Greene County since Thursday afternoon.
Greene County Rescue Squad spokesperson Bucky Ayers said the free climber has been stuck on the rock ledge in Margarette Falls since 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Officials determined that rescue crews should not climb due to the windy and slick conditions.
Knox County Sheriff's Office sent one of their helicopters to the area yesterday, but strong winds forced them to abort the rescue effort.
Greene County authorities are working with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to bring in a military helicopter from North Carolina for the rescue effort.
