The slick conditions on rural roads in Greene County created problems for emergency crews.

An ambulance ran off the road Thursday and almost down an embankment. Luckily, a tree stump and some debris stopped the ambulance. Both crews inside were hurt.

Authorities say they keep extra hands on deck during bad weather in case they run into problems like this

"We know we're going into an area that's bad we always send a supervisor or someone else in a four-wheel drive vehicle to respond and assist," said Robert Sayne, Greene County EMS.

Sheriff's department cruisers have four-wheel drive and help make sure emergency crews get to people in need safely.

The average response time in Greene County is 11 minutes, but the icy conditions have made emergency trips much longer this week.
