UPDATE 12:00 pm Friday

Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle accident in Jefferson County Thursday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified Christopher D. Weaver, 22 of Newport, died after an accident with a semi-truck. The semi-truck had slowed down for construction traffic. THP said Weaver didn't slow down in time, tried to swerve out of the way of the semi, but ended up rear-ending it.

Charges in the accident are pending.

UPDATE 2:55 pm:

I-40 is back open after a fatal crash in Jefferson County. THP is investigating the accident. No further details about the accident or the victim have been released.

UPDATE 12:55 pm:

Tennessee State Highway Patrol confirmed a multiple-vehicle crash, which has shut down westbound traffic on I-40 in Jefferson County, is fatal.

Officials said the accident happened near mile marker 427 in a TDOT construction zone.

(WBIR) A multiple-vehicle crash has shut down westbound traffic on I-40 near mile marker 427 in Jefferson County.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the crash happened at 10 a.m. Thursday. No word on how many vehicles are involved or if anyone was hurt.

Westbound traffic must take exit 432A to US 25/70 west to SR 113, then head north back to I-40 west at exit 424. Eastbound traffic is currently having no delays.

TDOT estimates crews will clear the wreck by 1 p.m.
