(WBIR) Officials say a fatal house fire in Greeneville is now being investigated as a murder.

Greeneville Police Chief Terry Cannon says that the fire was set to cover up a crime that left one woman dead. Firefighters found the body of Elizabeth Cooter inside the burning house on West Main Street in Greeneville Sunday morning.

A man, Roger Dewaye Aiken, was pulled from the home by police officers who first spotted the fire. Investigators say Aiken was lying on the living room floor. He is still in critical condition at a local hospital.

Officials say both Cooter and Aiken were injured before the fire started, but will not disclose how they were hurt at this time. They say they have questioned several people about the crime, and ask if anyone has any further information to call the Greeneville Police Department tip line at 423-783-2868.
