The trial for a Knoxville man charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend has been delayed.
Shawn Smoot is charged with first degree murder in the death of Brooke Morris in Roane County. She was his former employee and girlfriend.
His trial was scheduled to begin on March 25, but the judge has agreed to postpone the trial until July 30. The clerk's office said the trial is expected to take three days.
The Roane County News reports that the defense asked for the delay because they had just received a large amount of new material from the state, and they needed the extra time to go through it.
Smoot is out on bond while he awaits his trial.
