Update 12 pm:
Crews are still clearing boxes and debris that spilled onto I-40 East in Roane County during an early morning crash Monday, involving two tractor trailers.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol have reopened the left lane near mile marker 341, but the other lanes remain closed.
Traffic is moving slowly, so drivers should try to find alternative routes if possible. The Tennessee Department of Transportation initially expected the cleanup to wrap up at about 9 a.m. but then pushed the time back to 2 p.m.
Update 8 am:
Crews reopened the left lane of I-40 East in Roane County after two tractor trailers crashed early Monday morning.
The accident happened at about 2:20 a.m. near mile marker 341. The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed one of the tractor trailers overturned.
As of 8 a.m., the overturned semi was still on its side, but crews managed to pull it to the shoulder of the interstate. Officials said drivers should expect delays as crews work to clear the accident. TDOT estimated that crews will reopen all lanes by 9 a.m.
THP said there were injuries but didn't confirm how severe.
A semi overturned in the same area less than a week ago, blocking traffic for several hours.
