If you get a traffic citation in Rockwood, you may soon be paying for new technology for the police department.
The Rockwood City Council is considering imposing an extra $5 fee on the court costs for citations. The money would go directly to the police department technology fund.
Police Chief Danny Wright proposed the idea to pay for computer upgrades for the department.
Based on current citation rates, it would generate about $8,000 a year.
"We're not going to have to come back in the budget and try to find it in another area or have to go and ask for the taxpayers for a tax increase. It's a way to be able to fund future technology purchases for the department including office computers, in-car terminals, radars, other things," said Chief Wright.
The Rockwood City Council will vote on the proposal next Monday.
