(WBIR-Maryville) A plan to increase the sales tax in Blount County is effectively dead, but efforts in Maryville live on.
Tuesday night, Blount County commissioners withdrew a motion that would have advanced the sales tax proposal. If it had passed, commissioners could have sent the proposal to the tax payers.
The proposed sales tax increase is still alive in Maryville, and voters will get to decide on it this December. The proposal will raise the rate half a percent to 9.75 percent.
The city says that will generate $2.5 million dollars a year. Some of the money would help city projects, the other half would go to the schools.
That election is set for December 10th.
