A man accused of intentionally killing his neighbor's is now facing more serious charges.
Fred Lee Wright was charged with intentional killing of an animal, a misdemeanor, after he admitted to a Blount County deputy that he'd killed the 7-month-old miniature Pinscher mix named Kyra. There was a history of disturbances between Wright and his neighbor, who was fostering Kyra until a permanent home could be found for her.
Wright and his attorney showed up in court Thursday morning, prepared to plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge. However, the prosecution informed the court that they were upping the charge to felony aggravated animal cruelty. Wright did not enter a guilty plea.
Wright also faces a misdemeanor charge of stalking.
His preliminary hearing is set for October 1.
