A Blount County teacher is facing child pornography charges.

John Daniel Lynn, 38, of Alcoa, was arrested Monday at his home. Officers with the HEAT (Hi-Tech Evidence and Technology) Unit executed a search warrant and found images and videos of child pornography on his computer that had been downloaded from the internet.

Lynn is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a minor for possession of child pornography, and one count of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor for distribution of child pornography.

Director of Schools Rob Britt said Lynn has resigned from his position as a fourth grade teacher at Prospect Elementary School in Seymour. He was also a basketball coach. Britt said this was Lynn's first year at the school.

"Anytime you have a situation of this magnitude that affects a lot of people, it's a very unfortunate experience. It shakes up that school community," said Blount County Director of Schools Rob Britt.

Britt said Principal Jake Jones called all of the parents of the fourth grade students and members of the basketball team to tell them what happened.

"We wanted to have the opportunity prior to news breaking to contact those parents let them know and allow them to have conversations with their children related to this," Britt said.

Lynn is being held at the Blount County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $75,000. He has a hearing scheduled on October 18.

Lynn previously worked for Knox County Schools. A spokesperson said he was a 5th grade teacher at Shannondale Elementary School last year. His position there was eliminated. Lynn was a substitute teacher for KCS in 2010 and 2011.
