Alcoa Police have now identified two men they say attempted to rob a jewelry store on Wednesday. The store's owner, who uses a wheelchair, pulled a gun on the suspects, shooting one of them.

Investigators said Steven Grant Cash, 21, of Maryville, and Jordan Michael Echols, 24, of Maryville, came into Malone's Jewelers just after 4:30 pm. The store's owner said that Cash went into the restroom while Echols talked to him at the counter. A few minutes later, Cash came out wearing a hooded jacket and a mask. Cash then jumped over the counter and went into the office, taking the store's money bag.

As the men attempted to flee, the owner pulled a gun. He yelled for them to stop, then shot Cash in the abdomen. Cash fell to the floor, and the owner held both men at gunpoint until police arrived shortly after.

Cash is in critical condition at UT Medical Center. Echols is bing held without bond at the Blount County Jail.

The store owner was not hurt.
