A fire broke out Thursday morning at a salvage yard in Blount County.

Blount County fire officials say workers at Murrell Motors on Doc Norton Road were draining gasoline out of a vehicle when the fire started.

When firefighters arrived on scene a little after 10:00 a.m., they saw heavy flames and smoke and immediately began working to put it out.

"Well we just surrounded it. It's one of those fires that takes an immense amount of time because of the tires and the heat," said Captain Jim Patty with the Blount County Fire Prevention District.

No one was injured in the fire.

The owner says he lost a building and several tools in the fire.
