When a loyal Pet Safe Village employee didn't call or show up for work, her co-workers knew something was wrong.

On Sunday, the Blount County Sheriff's Office went to check on Jennifer Rust at the home she shared with her husband. Deputies arrived at the house on Sam Houston School Road and found both dead inside.

BSCO said the early autopsy results show Matthew Rust killed Jennifer and then himself.

Monday Jennifer's co-workers at Pet Safe Village said they are devastated and still in shock.

Jennifer's manager, Kevin Ogle, said there is a noticeable absence without her smile.

"She was someone who brought light into an often dark world. She never had bad days," said Ogle, "She always made you smile. I think she really touched everybody she came in contact with."

Jennifer previously worked at Young Williams Animal Center.

Their spokesperson said Jennifer had true dedication to animal welfare and they will miss her ability to light up a room.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office is still investigating. You are asked to call the Criminal Investigation Division during normal business hours at (865)273-5001.
