What started as a small idea to make the holidays brighter for our veterans turned into a huge display of Christmas cheer.
A few weeks ago, the Blount County Office of Veterans Affairs decided to collect holiday card for veterans. They put out flyers, but only expected to get a couple hundred cards.
It turns out people in East Tennessee and across the country sent two-thousand cards to our local veterans.
Veterans at "Morning View Village" in Maryville received their cards Thursday morning. They say they're grateful for the outpouring of support.
People from more than 30 states sent in cards, and so did people from outside the US, including folks from Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
