Firefighters in Seymour saved a house that a brush fire almost destroyed on Monday.

The fire began near Bays Mountain Road and Sams Lane. Firefighters say the homeowner was burning trash when winds helped spread the flames.

The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department said the flames came within 20 feet of a home, but they were able to protect it.

In total, the fire burned about four acres. It took firefighters about two and a half hours to put it out.
