A son helped thwart a home invasion at his mother's home in Seymour.
It happened on Baslam Street around 6:30 Wednesday evening. Police say the son was talking with his mom while he was heading home from work. He said his mom started yelling at someone to get out of her house.
The son immediately drove to his mom's. Police say when he got there, someone was standing in his mother's house with a shovel.
The son, who has a handgun carry permit, told the man to drop the shovel. The two men got in a fight, but the victim's son pinned the burglar. He held the suspect at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
The 29-year-old man is in custody, and sheriff's officials say he will face formal charges Thursday.
Officials say there were no serious injuries, but the elderly woman did go to the hospital for treatment, and her son suffered a small cut on his hand.
