(WBIR) Blount County is hoping to woo a large craft brewer to East Tennessee that would bring jobs and revenue to the area.
California-based Stone Brewing Company is planning to put down roots somewhere in the Eastern U.S.
Earlier this year, the brewer announced a request for proposal.
Blount Partnership is almost ready to submit a proposal after working on the project for about 6 weeks. They teamed up with Mary Beth West Communications and Designs to create the pitch.
Besides a social media campaign, they are using music to get Stone Brewing Company's attention.
Matt Honkonen wrote two songs for the pitch, called "People of Stone" and "A Stone in East Tennessee."
"I think craft brewers appreciate the art that they bring and I think that's a universal language," Honkonen said.
Tim Wirtz, director of strategic development for Mary Beth West Communications, said he expects thousands will apply.
"We needed to make sure we stood out," Wirtz said.
According to Wirtz, this project is part of a bigger plan.
"They're not coming to a community that doesn't know craft brewing. We know craft brewing. We just need that one company to come here and be that anchor," Wirtz said.
Blount Partnership President/CEO Bryan Daniels said it is their intention to attract a destination brewery to Pellissippi Place in Alcoa. The tech park's first tenant was Pronova Solutions, a $52 million investment.
In 2011, Blount Partnership tried getting Sierra Nevada Brewing Company to Pellissippi Place. Wirtz said a similar amount of Blount Partnership money went into this pitch. The group will be able to use a large portion of the proposal for future proposals.
"It's not just a tech park, it's a community that we're building. With a community, you have to have the jobs and you also have to have the commercial district to support it," Daniels said.
Stone Brewing Company will accept pitches until March 15.
