Officials with Alcoa City Schools have made substantial changes to their financial policies after they say an employee stole close to $350-thousand dollars from the district.

Director of Schools Dr. Brian Bell said they have developed stricter guidelines when it comes to placing a purchase order. The district also has new protocols for travel reimbursements and use of the district's credit card.

The school board is suing former employee Kathy A. Winters for full reimbursement. A six year TBI investigation showed she diverted hundreds of thousands of federal special education dollars for personal use.

She has not been charged with the crime.
