Members of the Monroe County Rescue Squad took some time Saturday afternoon to show locals exactly what they do when they respond to emergencies.

The squad re-enacted a crash involving three cars. One of the cars had a drunk driver.

Local firefighters and emergency crews used life-saving machinery to cut the actors out of the cars. Paramedics also tended to other actors with severe injuries.

Monroe County Sheriff Bill Bivens praised the rescue squad and said he hopes it will persuade people not to drink and drive.

"Hopefully, something like this will help our young and even our older folks," he said.

The Monroe County Rescue Squad also held a car show. All of the proceeds from that event will help fund their operations.
