(WBIR) The Watts Bar Nuclear Plant and surrounding area will be the site of an emergency preparedness exercise on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
The Tennessee Valley Authority will coordinate the drill along with federal, state and local agencies.
According to TVA, approximately 1,000 people are expected to participate in the exercise including emergency personnel located within 50-miles of the plant.
Local residents should expect to hear sirens coming from the plant during the exercise. In addition, residents may see radiological monitoring teams practicing throughout McMinn, Meigs and Rhea counties.
Homeland Security representatives will be on-hand throughout the exercise to grade participants. FEMA will hold a public meeting Friday morning to discuss the results. The meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Cumberland Room of the Knoxville Embassy Suites, located at 9621 Parkside Drive.
