The snow hit the southern part of East Tennessee just as hard as the rest of the region. Snow did not stop falling in McMinn County until about 9 a.m.

Parts of that community saw six inches of snow on the ground.

WBIR 10News found a number of residents eager to sled down Athens hills or pick a snowball fight, but the storm also brought with it some downsides.

It made for sloppy conditions on the roads. It also closed down plenty of institutions.

Tennessee Wesleyan College, McMinn County Schools and McMinn County government offices all decided to closed for the day.

There were a few icy spots on Interstate 75 too, but dispatchers said there were no major crashes because of the storm.
