Monday, a French diplomat awarded his country's greatest medal to five Tennessee men, 60 years after their World War II heroics.

The French consulate gave the Legion of Honor to William Drasal and Edwin Lansford, both from Crossville.

They and three others from Tennessee helped liberate France from Germany in 1944, but one man says their actions aren't anything special.

"People say it's a great honor. All I did was what I was told to do; that's all I did," said Kenneth Kittinger, Navy veteran from Madison, Tenn.

Some of the men honored fought at the D-Day Normandy invasion as well as the Battle of the Bulge.
