(WBIR-Heiskell) A former Knox County corrections officer, who was fired after being arrested, was killed in a wreck Monday night in Heiskell.

Jason Williams's car crashed into a fence on West Raccoon Valley Road. Officials pronounced the 40-year-old dead shortly after he arrived to UT Medical Center.

Investigators said speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Knox County Sheriff's Office fired Williams on August 19 after he was arrested for DUI and theft. He was accused of stealing a car and trying to drive it drunk.

His wife, Traci Williams, says her husband served in the Navy for twelve years prior to joining the KCSO. He worked there for ten years. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind three children.
