A Knoxville man convicted in the brutal assault of a tow truck driver received the maximum sentence Thursday for his crime.

A jury convicted 23-year-old Tycorrian Taylor of attempted voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault in October for the 2012 beating of Ron Gandy.

Gandy suffered severe brain injuries and now uses a wheelchair.

"He had a chance to walk away. I didn't have a chance to walk away and now look at what I'm going through," said Gandy.

Gandy and his family were in court as a judge sentenced Taylor to the maximum of six years for the attack.

Gandy's son said he's satisfied with the sentence.

"I am happy with the sentencing because it was the max he could get. It's not the minimum like they tried, so I'm pleased that it was the max," said Jordan Gandy.

The minimum Taylor faced was three years behind bars.

Taylor did apologize in the courtroom.
