Officials say alcohol may have been a contributing factor.


Update 8:02 a.m.

(WBIR-Knoxville) Knoxville police identified the victim of a fatal crash in northwest Knoxville Friday night.

Officials said Joyce Scott, 48, of Knoxville was speeding when her Toyota Yaris left the roadway and struck a utility pole just before 9 p.m. Next, the car flipped and ran into a business at 2622 Texas Avenue, killing its passenger 53-year-old Norman Connatser of Knoxville.

Officials pronounced Connatser dead at the scene. Crews drove Scott to UT Medical Center for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

KPD confirmed both were wearing seat belts, and alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

(WBIR-Knoxville) Police said a man died after a car smashed into a northwest Knoxville business Friday night.

Officials said the car he was riding in ran off the road, went down a hill, and ran into a business on Texas Avenue near Western Avenue just before 9 p.m.

Investigators said the driver of the car was injured and rushed to UT Medical Center.

KPD has not released any information about the victims yet.
