Authorities have shut down a spa that investigators said was a front for prostitution.
On Thursday, Knoxville Police officers and the District Attorney General's office closed the Green Spa, located at 5833 Clinton Highway #201, under a public nuisance injunction.
District Attorney General Randy Nichols said employees offered sexual acts to undercover officers in exchange for money.
Knox County Assistant District Attorney Sea McDermott said, "The investigation started on community complaints and so obviously the neighbors and businesses in the area were tired of seeing this activity and responded and called the police department and that's what triggered this whole investigation."
This is the second time a spa in that location was boarded up for the same reason. In September 2013, Smile Spa was closed as a nuisance because of alleged prostitution. Green Spa opened a month later, with a new owner and a new business license, but there were immediate complaints that prostitution was occurring there again.
Nichols said this is the 39th business closed in the city's efforts to make neighborhoods safer. It is the 5th massage parlor closed for prostitution.
