(WBIR) Knoxville police charged a man for a car crash that escalated into a shooting in northwest Knoxville.

The accident happened at the intersection of University Avenue and Calloway Street at about 7:30 Saturday night. Officers said shots were fired after a white Chrysler rammed into another vehicle in the Mechanicsville neighborhood.

Police were able to pull over the white Chrysler and arrested its driver David Heier, 55, of Knoxville. He's been charged with his third DUI, driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident among other charges.

Officials said the other people involved also drove away from the scene of the crash, but haven't been found. Authorities are still investigating the shooting.
