Oak Ridge veterans were the center of attention Thursday at the American Museum of Science and Energy.

Since Veterans Day is right around the corner, the Oak Ridge office of the Department of Energy hosted its annual Heroes program. This event helps honor East Tennessee veterans.

More than a hundred people came to share their thanks with those who fought for this country's freedom.

"America has 22 million veterans, and those folks have paid a special price with their service to America, and this is just a small way we can pay them back for their service to our country," said DOE Deputy Manager Kevin Hall.

"As I get older, I am appreciating it and seeing these people who are appreciative of what has been done in over 200 years for the freedom we enjoy," said WWII veteran Dean. A. Ford.

All of the veterans in the audience concluded the program by joining together for a group picture.
