An historic Oak Ridge building is one step closer to a new future.
Thursday, the Family Pride Corporation celebrated the next phase of its work to turn the former Alexander Inn into a senior living facility.
The inn was built during the Manhattan Project in the 1940's. It fell into disrepair, and landed on the East Tennessee's Endangered Heritage list several times.
Developers began working to stabilize the endangered building this May. Now they're ready to begin renovations in earnest.
Historic preservationists are excited to see the years of work to save the building pay off.
"This is a very exciting day for me personally, but also for our organization. This is why our organization exists. It's projects like this, it's days like today, this is why we were founded five years ago," said Ethiel Garlington of the East Tennessee Preservation Alliance.
The renovations are set to be complete some time in the middle of next year.
